The FreeBSD Foundation is soliciting the submission of proposals for work relating to any of the major subsystems or infrastructure within the FreeBSD operating system.

The FreeBSD Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to supporting and building the FreeBSD Project worldwide. One way the Foundation provides this support is by funding software development, including work performed by the Foundation’s permanent staff, and by providing development grants.
Request Focus
Proposals will be accepted for work on any of the subsystems or infrastructure in FreeBSD, although the Foundation is particularly interested in receiving project grant proposals in a few key areas:
- Improving the security of FreeBSD and of applications running on FreeBSD
- Test, test infrastructure, and quality assurance improvements
- Tools to support development, collaboration and and communication within the community
- Improving the FreeBSD “out of the box” experience for new users on a variety of hardware platforms
- Establishes FreeBSD as a leader in advancing projects of shared interest
(For example: ZFS, LLVM, or libarchive).
Guidelines
Grants are open to all developers, including those who are not currently FreeBSD committers, but developers without access to commit to the source tree must provide details about the completion of their project. The proposal must identify what is to be done and why it is important to the FreeBSD community. Proposals will be evaluated on desirability, technical merit, and cost-effectiveness.
